SIG/SG Roles

  • Chair: The chair leads the work of the SIG/SG and is the primary liaison between the SIG/SG, Internet Society staff and the community of members. The chair typically organizes and leads SIG/SG meetings and ensures the SIG's/SG's work and functioning is in line with these guidelines and according to the scope and goals of the SIG/SG.
  • Vice chair: The vice chair assists the chair in his/her duties and will assume these duties in the absence of the chair. Regional diversity between the chair and the vice chair is highly encouraged.
  • Secretary: The secretary acts as custodian for SIG/SG documents, is responsible for the scheduling and operation of SIG/SG meetings in coordination with the chair/vice chair and is also in charge of the maintenance of the minutes.
  • AMS administrator: The AMS administrator updates the SIG's/SG's data via the Internet Society's Association Management System (AMS)
  • Treasurer: The treasurer ensures a SIG/SG budget is submitted to the Internet Society based on the SIG's/SG's action plan. The treasurer is the main liaison with Internet Society staff on budget related questions. The management of the SIG/SG budget & disbursement to third party vendors is made by Internet Society staff.
  • Planning and reporting officer: The planning and reporting officer (officer) is in charge of developing (in collaboration with the SIG/SG leadership & members) and submitting the SIG/SG action plan including budget and annual reports to the Internet Society.
  • Chapters Advisory Council (ChAC) representative: SIGs and SGs have observer rights in the ChAC and are encouraged to appoint a ChAC representative to take part in the ChAC discussions if they wish so. SIGs and SGs do not have voting rights in the ChAC.
